General Meet Info

  1. The NVSL competes in 25-meter pools with the exception of Kent Gardens and Holmes Run Acres, which are 25 yards.
  2. Swimmers secure their own transportation to and from meets. If a ride is needed, please try to arrange it before the day of the meet. Contact the Team Rep for assistance.
  3. When the team travels for Saturday meets, we meet at Walden Glen to caravan to the host pool. The address of the host pool will be emailed the week of the meet. If you plan to join the team at the host pool, please let the Head Coach and/or Team Rep know in advance. For all other meets, the team meets at the host pool at a specified time.
  4. At meets, each team is assigned a designated team area. Swimmers should remain in the team area throughout the meet. This is considered best practice by the NVSL and helps prevent missed events.
  5. Coaches will help swimmers report for events on time. When instructed, the swimmers will go directly to the Clerk of Course until it is time to compete.
  6. Swimmers should check in with the coaches before and after each race.
  7. The referee will blow a series of short chirps on a whistle indicating that the next event should be introduced by the announcer. For forward starts, the long whistle indicates quiet for the start. For backstroke starts, the first long whistle invites the swimmers to step into the pool. The second long whistle indicates quiet for the start. The quiet for the start must be observed to ensure a fair and equitable start for the event.
  8. Please respect all volunteer officials. Per NVSL policy, please direct any questions and concerns to the Team Rep.
  9. Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. There will be no booing, vulgarity, or any form of poor sportsmanship.
  10. The entire team is to clean up after themselves. We will leave our team area as we found it.
  11. A swimmer should not leave a meet without informing the Head Coach or the Team Rep to ensure that the swimmer is not needed for a later event.
  12. If something unexpected happens that will prevent a swimmer from competing, please inform the Head Coach or a Team Rep as soon as possible.

TEAM GEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Team Suits: All swimmers are encouraged to purchase and wear the official team suit, but team suits are notmandatory. We have an optional hand-me-down program for team suits. If you are interested in participating, please contact a Team Rep.

Swimmers should choose a competition-style one-piece suit for girls or a jammer or brief/”speedo” for boys. Swimmer comfort and modesty is important; however, swimming in board shorts and/or a rashguard-style shirt will make the learning process more challenging.

Caps: Walden Glen team encourages all swimmers to wear a team cap at meets. The NVSL prohibits wearing any other team cap at meets, but any other cap is acceptable. At home meets, the concession stand will have Walden Glen team caps for sale.

If hair is long enough to get in the swimmer’s eyes, the swimmer must wear a cap at practice. Any swim cap is permitted at practices.Â

Goggles: Goggles should be worn at all practices and meets. Swimmers should have two pairs of goggles with them at practices and meets.
